Memory chipmakers' quarterly profit tops major U.S. tech peers
Nikkei Asia, citing FactSet, reported that Kioxia, Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, Micron Technology and SanDisk generated a combined ¥32 trillion in quarterly operating profit, ten times the year-earlier total. Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta and Apple earned about ¥25 trillion combined, though Apple's figure was a market estimate because it had not yet published its results. The report also said Samsung sold out its next-year high-bandwidth memory products and attributed Kioxia's growth primarily to surging data-center demand for NAND flash.
The reported figures show how AI-related data-center investment and tight memory supply shifted exceptional profits toward major storage-chip manufacturers, though the comparison includes an estimated Apple result.
