Apple CEO John Ternus says AI should recede behind the product experience
Apple CEO John Ternus told WIRED that the company will use AI but does not want to ship it “for AI’s sake.” He said that when Apple gets it right, users should not need to consider whether AI or traditional software powered a product; what matters is whether they love using it. Ternus also described product creation as deeply human and personal when discussing the possibility that AI agents could make apps unnecessary. He said Apple’s focus is on making its products secure and safe and protecting users’ information.
Ternus outlined Apple’s stated approach to AI: use it to improve products without making the technology itself the selling point, while emphasizing product quality, security and protection of user information.

Apple wants people to love its products without having to think about whether AI made them work, chief executive John Ternus told Steven Levy for WIRED. The interview was published on Friday 30 October.
Levy spoke to Ternus at Apple’s Los Angeles launch of the touchscreen MacBook Pro this week. Ternus, 51, has spent 25 years at Apple and has been chief executive for less than two months.
