Microsoft Opens Voluntary Departure Program to About 60,000 Staff
Microsoft has opened a voluntary departure program for roughly 60,000 employees in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and India, according to 36氪 and 钛媒体. Eligible staff can receive compensation and leave by year-end without meeting retirement or poor-performance requirements, and Copilot-related roles are included. The number of employees expected to accept is still unknown.
The program covers a substantial part of Microsoft’s workforce and also includes staff from its strategically important Copilot business, while its timing has prompted discussion about workforce costs amid heavy AI infrastructure spending.
