2026 TIE expo draws 50,000+ as AI moves beyond chat into health, fire safety and energy
The 2026 Taiwan Innotech Expo (TIE) closed on Sept. 19 after a three-day run that drew more than 50,000 visits from 64 countries, organized by 12 government ministries under the theme of AI-enabled innovation and sustainability. Exhibits included a local biotech company's automated platform for preclinical anti-cancer drug testing, which rebuilds a tumor's 3D structure, immune response and surrounding environment on a chip; a self-powered AIoT fire-safety patch from National Cheng Kung University that harvests a device's own temperature differences to power AI overheating alerts; and an Institute for Information Industry system for satellite-communication cyber-threat simulation and AI monitoring of jamming, eavesdropping and unencrypted data. On energy and weather, Taipower presented an island energy-storage dispatch system combining quantum neural networks with meteorological big data, while National Central University's TPTRS uses weather-radar data to reconstruct 3D thermodynamic fields over complex terrain — a technique its team calls the only one directly applicable to such terrain.
The expo shows AI in Taiwan spreading from chatbots into healthcare, disaster prevention and energy, though most exhibits remain early-stage research or demonstration projects.
