Intel CEO says China is “not that far behind” in chip manufacturing
Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said China’s chip-manufacturing capability was “not that far behind” the United States, without specifying chip types, process nodes, yields or costs, according to IT之家, cnBeta, 科技新报 and Wccftech. In the same Nikkei Asia interview, Tan said Intel’s restructuring was about 80% complete and rebuilding a foundry business competitive with TSMC would require years of major investment. He also said the US government would not use its minority Intel stake to interfere with the company’s strategy.
The remarks provide a notable industry perspective on semiconductor competition and Intel’s long-term foundry turnaround, but the broad China assessment does not establish parity in advanced manufacturing.
