Xterral and Hanji to build 10MW modular gas power systems for AI data centers
Xterral New Energy said its subsidiary Chenxi Precision signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Hanji, Volvo Penta's Taiwan distributor, to jointly develop 10MW-class containerized modular gas power systems targeting self-supplied power for AI data centers. Hanji supplies the Volvo Penta gas engines while Chenxi handles local manufacturing and system integration, and the modules can be deployed and expanded in stages to match a data center's actual demand. Hanji's chairman said the company has secured a 2027 allocation of 300 gas engines, corresponding to roughly 120MW; Xterral also debuted an integrated generation, distribution, storage and backup power package at Taiwan International Smart Energy Week, including 5.5kW, 12kW and 22kW battery backup units.
Xterral's general manager said power stability and energy autonomy have become key considerations for data center build-outs as global AI data center power demand grows, and the partnership extends the company from storage systems into power generation.
