  3. Apollo finds AI financial gains concentrated in Big Tech

Apollo Global Management’s analysis found that inflation-adjusted revenue per worker and profit margins rose for the Magnificent Seven, while the other 493 S&P 500 companies remained flat. Apollo chief economist Torsten Slok also reported no evidence of AI-driven productivity growth outside tech and said mainstream companies were increasingly treating token spending as a cost. Goldman Sachs economist Jan Hatzius countered that AI investment may ultimately produce higher productivity and economy-wide profits.

  5. a16z names first 50 fellows in its Ops Engineering Fellowship

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) announced the inaugural cohort of its Ops Engineering Fellowship, an eight-week program for leaders it says are transforming their organizations with AI. The firm said it received thousands of applications from around the world before selecting 50 fellows, drawn from companies including Ramp, Decagon, Luma AI, Opendoor and ElevenLabs. According to a16z, many fellows work at the intersection of operations and engineering, building internal tools, designing data and context layers for agents, and deploying agentic workflows with human checkpoints.

  6. Fragment raises $12M to keep AI agents from misdirecting company payments

New York startup Fragment, founded by CEO Thomas Neckel and CTO and former Robinhood engineer Varun Mohan, announced a $12 million funding round co-led by FirstMark and BoxGroup, following an earlier $11 million seed round led by Stripe with BoxGroup and several tech executives participating. The company did not disclose its latest valuation. Fragment says its product lets developers embed its tool in their own software and uses double-entry bookkeeping to confirm transactions balance before money actually moves, keeping a shared record of where funds came from and went. Neckel describes Fragment as supplying "financial primitives" for AI agents to automate business workflows, and the company says it has around 50 to 60 paying customers, including corporate card startup Ramp, financial software firm BILL and digital marketplace Whop.

  7. Tomasz Tunguz: Anthropic looks like a cloud, and should be valued like one

In a blog post, venture investor Tomasz Tunguz argues that Anthropic should be assessed as a cloud business rather than only an AI model company, comparing its Q2 2026 revenue of $12 billion with AWS at $42 billion, Azure at $39 billion and Google Cloud at $25 billion. He cites 1,374% year-over-year growth, a $46 billion annual run rate and $518 billion in data-center commitments, while noting that two customers accounted for nearly 25% of 2025 revenue, per Reuters reporting from an unfiled prospectus. He also cites Ramp vendor data showing 87% of businesses buying a coding agent use Claude Code, and Artificial Analysis figures putting Claude Opus 5.5 at $5.98 per task versus $3.26 for GPT-6 Astra and $1.99 for Gemini 4 Argon.

  8. Nvidia releases 120B Nemotron 3.5 Super VL and two Bolt edge models

Nvidia released Nemotron 3.5 Super VL, an open-weight multimodal mixture-of-experts model with 120 billion total and 12 billion active parameters, aimed at always-on agents and combining reasoning, instruction following and tool use with text, image, document and video understanding. Weights are available on Hugging Face in BF16 and NVFP4, organizations can post-train it with Nvidia NeMo on their own data and workflows, and both vLLM and SGLang announced day-0 serving support. Nvidia also introduced the Nemotron 3.5 Bolt line: the 74B-A9B 24GB, a 74-billion-parameter, 9-billion-active model compressed with 2-bit quantization to fit 24GB of memory, is available now, while a roughly 4GB Bolt E4B is planned for October 23. Nvidia claims up to 5x the throughput of comparable open models on agentic tasks, an 80.8% CharXiv chart-reasoning score (84% with Python code execution), and that Dynamo can serve up to 8x as many concurrent users with 85% lower time to first token under specified conditions; these figures are vendor-reported and not independently verified.

  9. As token prices fall, AI model vendors rewrite the pricing yardstick

An analysis republished by 36Kr (originally from 窄播AI) says that as per-million-token prices keep falling, model vendors are separately pricing speed, resource priority and budget certainty. It cites OpenAI's July moves — cutting GPT-5.6 Luna API input and output prices by 80% and mid-tier Terra by 20% — while selling a Fast Mode for GPT-5.6 Sol at twice the standard price for up to 2.5x the output speed, and an early-October update that raised GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol speeds by about 50%. OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar is cited proposing "Useful Intelligence per Dollar," arguing enterprises should count task completion, time spent, retries and human supervision rather than token list prices. The piece cites Ramp data showing effective price per million tokens for its US business sample fell from $1.15 to $0.68 (41%) between March and September 2026 while monthly token spending grew 20x from June 2025 to June 2026, and SemiAnalysis subscription-quota tests estimating that, assuming a 92% API gross margin and fully used quotas, exhausting Opus 5.5 quota implies roughly -369% subscription gross margin versus about 1% for Fable 5.1.
