Six Xiaolingtong on AI 'Shengdai CP' edits: fun creativity, but red lines apply

Liu Xiaolingtong, who played Sun Wukong in the 1986 TV adaptation of Journey to the West, was interviewed in Jinan, Shandong, and commented on the viral "Shengdai CP" trend in which users pair Sun Wukong with Lin Daiyu from Dream of the Red Chamber using AI, IT之家 reported, citing 新黄河. He said a newspaper piece he read put related content at 5 billion views, which he saw as evidence of successive generations' affection for classics such as Journey to the West and Dream of the Red Chamber, and he called the creativity meaningful and fun for drawing attention to traditional culture and spurring new art forms. He also stressed "staying faithful to the original, being cautious with reimagining," saying such adaptations must not cross policy and legal limits or the red lines in audiences' minds. IT之家 said the pairing traces back to 2020 Bilibili fan edits, surged from 2025 as AI tools lowered production barriers, and by June 2025 had topped 5 billion Douyin topic views and 500 million Bilibili video views.
