   Amazon CEO Downplays Threat From External AI Shopping Agents

   Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said few customers currently shop through external AI agents because the experience remains poor and is no more convenient than visiting a retailer directly. He expects Amazon’s Alexa for Shopping to be the primary agent customers use to shop on Amazon. Amazon reported that more than 400 million customers used Alexa for Shopping over the previous 12 months and that customer interactions grew 570% year over year.

   Amazon has expanded Alexa for Shopping in the United States to handle more than 100 tasks through conversation, including shopping lists, subscriptions, delivery instructions, refunds, billing questions, and payment issues. Users can also ask about Prime and Audible subscriptions, change delivery frequency, update addresses, and add drop-off details. The features are available to all US Amazon customers through the Shopping app and Amazon’s desktop website.

   Amazon's About You page goes viral over AI-inferred shopper profiles

   Amazon's "About You" page has become a social media hit over the personal traits it infers about shoppers, with users sharing entries such as "has flat buttocks," "cannot keep real plants alive" and "does not trust people easily," and at least one incorrect detail. Launched on 13 May, the page draws on purchase history, searches, saved lists, product reviews and conversations with the Alexa for Shopping assistant, and shoppers can view, edit or delete each item under Shopping preferences in their account settings or ask Alexa, "What do you know about me?" Most entries are generic and some are wrong.
