   Ring's first smart lock adds a hand-crank power dial

   Ring announced its first smart lock this week, featuring a hand-powered dial on the exterior that generates enough electricity to wake the keypad so you can enter a PIN or scan a fingerprint when the battery is dead. It supports fingerprint, PIN (including temporary codes), the Ring app and Alexa, and uses a removable Quick Release Ultra battery pack that can be recharged at home. The lock is slated for early 2027 at $250 in black, silver and brass; battery life, Matter compatibility and third-party integrations remain undisclosed.

   Amazon retires Fire tablets for Android-based Alexa Tablets, from $229.99

   Amazon is replacing its 15-year-old Fire tablet line with Alexa Tablets — three Android models priced from $229.99 to $549.99, shipping October 14 in the US, Canada and Mexico and October 19 in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. They are Amazon's first tablets to run Android with full Google Play Store access, all include Alexa+, and an opt-in On-Screen Intelligence feature can read what is on the display (off by default, with an on-screen indicator).    Boston Dynamics appoints former Amazon AI leader Rohit Prasad as CEO

   Boston Dynamics has appointed former Amazon executive Rohit Prasad as CEO, effective October 7, succeeding Robert Playter, who stepped down in February. Prasad previously led Alexa and Amazon’s general artificial intelligence organization and oversaw development of the Amazon Nova foundation-model family.
