Ask Play adds video answers with citations and timestamps
Google’s October 2026 system release notes say Ask Play can include relevant videos with citations and timestamps in responses. Google Play Store 53.8 also adds Sidekick Playbacks, which retroactively captures the previous 30 seconds of gameplay and stores the video locally, and shareable links for Play Shorts on Android, other platforms and the web. Google Play Services 26.42 adds phone pairing for Android XR glasses and background pairing for true wireless stereo earbuds. The release notes warn that some features may be experimental or limited to certain users. Compatible Android XR devices, phones and earbuds were not fully specified, and Google has not published a universal rollout schedule for the Ask Play video citations or pairing features.
Ask Play’s video references give users another way to evaluate apps before installing them by linking written information to relevant portions of videos. However, Google has not explained how it selects or verifies those sources, and availability remains unspecified.

The monthly “Google System Release Notes” primarily detail what’s new in Play services, Play Store, and Play system update across Android phones/tablets, Wear OS, Google/Android TV, Auto, and PC. Some features apply to end users, while others are aimed at developers.
