China Meteorological Administration releases AI solar radiation forecasting model
China's Meteorological Administration has released an AI solar radiation forecasting model called Fengyuan Radiation Perception and Forecasting Model, according to a Xinhua report relayed by 36Kr. The report describes it as the country's first end-to-end AI solar radiation forecasting model driven by a fusion of geostationary satellite data and a ground-based minute-level radiation observation network, and says it enables real-time monitoring and ultra-short-term forecasting of ground solar radiation stations and grids nationwide. It is positioned as technical support for ultra-short-term photovoltaic power forecasting.
The release points to AI being applied to operational weather and radiation forecasting aimed at supporting solar power output prediction, though the 'first of its kind' claim comes only from the relayed report and has not been independently verified.
