Reddit user uses Claude and ADB to disable TV telemetry and ads

AI summary

Reddit user TheRealShamanoid published a guide for using Claude through a debug-enabled ADB connection to inspect services on a Panasonic TV-75W95BEB and disable advertising and telemetry functions. The author says a session flagged about 50 services, stopped some, reduced others' permissions, and added firewall and Pi-hole rules for system-locked services, while warning that deeper modifications could brick the TV.

In-depth insight

The account provides a concrete example of Claude assisting a scoped privacy and security workflow through authorized ADB access without requiring root, though it is a single unverified report.

I've seen a lot of posts showing that Anthropic has tightened their guardrails around reverse-engineering. Due to recent events in the security world (PHP2Shell and others) I think it's normal they've taken that approach. So I'm making this little guide on how to still be able to deactivate ads/telemetry services on your TV while respecting Claude's guardrails based on my own exploration for my Panasonic TV-75W95BEB

Before starting

Check on Google (I know, old school) how to put your TV in debug mode to allow Claude to connect via adb. Also, remember that you can actually brick your TV by digging too deep and attempting to modify some crucial settings and/or services

Scope your request

What do you actually want to do? I doubt most of us actually want a full reverse-engineering of the TV OS, gaining root access, creating custom boot loaders and whatnot. The most important for me was being able to shutdown telemetry and ads services, get a list of each service and their associated permissions etc.
