Apple releases iOS 27.2 with expanded Siri AI and automation
Apple released iOS 27.2 to all iPhone users after six weeks of beta testing. The update expands Siri AI with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, adds Shortcuts triggers for when an iPhone Duo is opened or closed, and brings Apple TV Multiview for up to four live sports streams plus user profiles. Apple Podcasts also gains sections for new episodes and continuing playback. A “Restrict Motion Data” setting can block selected apps from accessing gyroscope and accelerometer data; one report says it requires a mainland China Apple Account. CNET reported 141 bug and security issues, while iThome Taiwan counted 286 unique vulnerabilities across the related macOS and iOS/iPadOS advisories after removing duplicates.
The release adds AI language support, device-opening and closing automation, media features and a privacy control, while addressing a substantial set of reported security issues. CNET said some patched issues could have allowed third parties to access data or run commands on an iPhone.

Why iOS 27.2 and not iOS 27.1?
Apple released iOS 27 on September 14, bringing a ton of new iPhone features, including Siri AI. iOS 27.2 entered beta testing just two days later on September 16.
What happened to iOS 27.1? iOS 27.1 was exclusive to the iPhone Duo, which was released last week and shipped with iOS 27.1. With iOS 27.2, the software update paths have converged and all iPhones will be on the same page going forward.
