Buddy brings Codex CLI to Android with on-device app control
AI summary
The developer of Buddy announced an open-source Android app that runs the real Codex CLI inside a small Linux environment and signs in with a ChatGPT plan. According to the developer, Buddy requires no PC, Android Debug Bridge, or root access, and gives Codex tools to view the screen, tap, operate apps, and test what it builds.
In-depth insight
Buddy could make mobile AI-agent workflows more accessible by combining Codex CLI, Linux tooling, and Android app control without a separate computer, though its capabilities and demonstrations remain first-party claims.
| I've been building Buddy, an open-source Android app that runs the real Codex CLI inside the app, in a small Linux, signed in with your ChatGPT plan. No PC, no adb, no root. Codex also gets tools to see the screen and tap, so it can use your apps and test what it builds. The test in the picture: I typed "Build and install a Pac-Man style maze game with ghosts and touch controls" with Linux tools on for that chat. What Codex did, about 2.5 minutes: It also works with Claude Code, OpenCode, Antigravity and Grok if you use those. Free, Apache 2.0. App building is in the GitHub APK: https://github.com/ghorbelhamdi/buddy-android Curious what you'd want Codex to do on a phone. submitted by /u/3amae404 [link] [comments] |
