| I built Yomu, an Android app that translates Japanese manga pages on the phone. Open a page in any reader app and tap a floating button. Yomu finds the speech bubbles, reads the Japanese, translates the whole page with a local LLM (llama.cpp), and redraws the bubbles in English, Portuguese, Spanish, French or German. Nothing leaves the phone. How I used Claude Code Claude Code wrote most of the code: the Kotlin app, the overlay service, the Compose UI, and the C++ JNI bridge to llama.cpp. My job was deciding what to build, reviewing, and testing on my phone. These are the parts of the setup that made it work: What didn't work well Try it It's free and open source (AGPL-3.0), with no accounts and no ads. Download the APK from GitHub Releases, or add the repo to Obtainium for updates. The app needs an arm64 phone and a one-time model download of about 1.1 GB. https://github.com/artsaraiva/yomu submitted by /u/Th3Expl0Rer [link] [comments] |
