Google Targets Six-Month TPU Deployment Cycle
Google Cloud AI infrastructure supply-chain and manufacturing operations vice president Rehan Sheikh said at Foxconn Technology Day that Taiwan remains a core hub for Google’s custom chips and systems innovation. The company’s TPU 8t and TPU 8i are designed for training and inference respectively, while Google is moving toward releasing two inference and training chips per year. Sheikh also said Google aims to reduce the chip-to-service deployment cycle from 12–18 months or more to about six months.
The deployment target and two-chips-per-year cadence provide concrete details about Google’s AI infrastructure roadmap, although the demand, backlog and six-month timeline were presented by Google without independent verification.
