Ex-OpenAI research chief's Arda exits stealth with $232M for factory AI
Arda Industries, founded by former OpenAI research chief Bob McGrew, has come out of stealth with about $232 million in total funding, including a $160 million Series A at a $1.5 billion valuation co-led by Altimeter, Accel and Khosla Ventures, according to The Next Web. The company says its software pairs an interface with an agent that works from CAD files and other design documents to plan assembly order, write work instructions and lay out stations; Anduril was its first design partner and uses Arda inside its ArsenalOS manufacturing software. Anduril-reported figures cited by The Next Web say basic work instructions that took 10 hours now take 15 minutes, while complex engineering work of up to 30 hours takes about 2.5 hours; these performance numbers are customer-reported, not independently measured.
The launch is a high-profile test of whether AI agents can move beyond coding and office work into factory production planning, with Anduril already named as a customer.
