Apple buys assets of AI audio startup Samplab to bolster music-creation tools
Apple, through a subsidiary, will acquire certain assets of Zurich-based AI audio company Samplab and offer employment to some of its employees, according to an update to the EU's List of Acquisitions reported by 9to5Mac; the deal was struck in June but surfaced on October 19, and Apple has not commented. Samplab, founded in 2020, marketed an audio editor that let creators "edit audio files as if you were working with MIDI," including chord detection and editing, granular stem separation and per-note editing of polyphonic audio, and its site now redirects to Apple's. Outlets including 9to5Mac, IT之家 and 科技新报 expect the technology could be folded into Logic Pro or GarageBand, but no product integration has been confirmed.
9to5Mac reports that Samplab is the latest in a string of creative-tool deals — after MotionVFX, Color.io and the acqui-hire of Huxe — supporting Apple Creator Studio, the pro-apps suite it says debuted in January.

The EU’s List of Acquisitions website was updated today with details of a deal struck in June between Apple and Samplab, a Swiss startup that described itself as offering “music production for the age of AI.” Here are the details.
Apple’s string of AI deals continues
Last week, the List of Acquisitions section of the EU’s DMA website was updated with details on Apple’s move to acqui-hire Huxe, a startup founded by former NotebookLM engineers that specialized in generating personalized audio briefings and podcast-style content using AI.
Today, the list was updated yet again, revealing another deal involving Apple and an AI audio company.
Apple Inc. (“Apple”), through a subsidiary, will acquire certain assets of Samplab GmbH (“Samplab”) and offer employment to and hire certain Samplab employees. Samplab develops audio editing tools. Apple (together with its group companies) designs, manufactures and markets smartphones, personal computers, tablets, wearables and accessories, and sells a variety of related services.
