Government investment tools raise US allocation to 58%
Global SWF data cited by TechNews, drawing on Nikkei Asia, show that government investment tools increased their allocation to the United States from 52% in 2025 to 58% in the first half of 2026. Government funds, including pensions, invested $154 billion in North America in 2025, while investment in emerging economies including China and India fell to $50 billion, a seven-year low. Outside observers cited in the report associate the uneven allocation with the AI investment boom, but the available data do not establish a causal relationship or show how much of the shift was directed specifically toward AI assets.
The figures quantify a major concentration of government-backed investment in the United States. The report also identifies sovereign-fund participation in Anthropic's financing and MGX's investment in OpenAI's Stargate data-center project, illustrating how some government-linked capital has reached AI businesses.
