Medical AI Moves Toward Integrated Hospital Platforms
A WeChat analysis by Xizhimen Waihan, citing an Economic Observer report, says medical-AI news increasingly comes from large internet companies as hospitals favor integrated platforms over separate disease-specific systems. Professor Duan Tao of Shanghai Dongfang Hospital showed an Economic Observer reporter 11 AI applications, including DeepSeek, Doubao, Ant Afu Doctor Edition and Hydrogen Ion. The analysis attributes the shift partly to hospitals’ tighter return-on-investment scrutiny, multiple procurement and maintenance costs, and policy supporting provincial pooled procurement of AI-assisted diagnostic imaging. Internet companies are expanding doctor-workflow platforms, but the report says their clinical, compliance and commercialization capabilities still require validation. Company results also show divergence: Airdoc reported lower revenue while iFlytek Healthcare reported growth, although their different business structures make direct comparison inappropriate.
The report suggests that medical-AI commercialization may increasingly depend on integrated platforms that control procurement, physician workflows and hospital relationships. This could affect how specialist algorithm companies reach hospitals even if their underlying technology continues to be used, while leaving open whether large internet companies ultimately gain an advantage.
