Samsung said to lock in ~80% of 2027 memory capacity via long-term deals
Industry sources cited by Korean media reports say Samsung Electronics has locked in close to 80% of next year's (2027) memory chip capacity through long-term supply agreements, covering high-bandwidth memory (HBM), conventional DRAM and other memory products used in AI infrastructure. NVIDIA, Google and Microsoft are among the customers reportedly placing orders, with supply terms generally spanning five years or more. Samsung said on its Q2 earnings call that almost all key customers are pressing hard for long-term deals and that it cannot fully meet demand; SK hynix and Micron have also signed large long-term agreements with major customers.
These deals lock AI memory supply years in advance, which could tighten availability and limit price declines for consumer DDR5, graphics memory and client SSDs, making memory a key bottleneck to watch.
