  2. Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst Race to Secure AI Chips for Startups

Andreessen Horowitz is in talks to expand the compute it offers its portfolio companies, potentially through two data center companies it has backed, after setting up a 20,000-GPU cluster for its startups two years ago, The Information reported. General Catalyst is building its own data center to supply compute to its startups, while several other venture funds have used brokers to find sought-after chips for their companies. The plans were described by people familiar with them and details have not been made public.

  3. Standard Bots on its industrial robot AI stack: targeted data, on-prem inference

In a Latent Space interview, Standard Bots co-founder/CEO Evan Beard and head of AI Leif Jentoft described the AI stack behind its industrial robot arms. The company calls itself "America's largest AI-native industrial robot manufacturer," recently raised a $200M Series C at a $1B valuation led by General Catalyst and RoboStrategy, and lists NASA, Amazon and Lockheed Martin as customers. Its largest model sits in the low billions of parameters, trains in the cloud and runs inference on-premises; a zero-shot perception model trained on over a billion images locates and identifies parts, while motion and cell logic stay conventional. Its StandardOS platform offers APIs and SDKs so developers can bring their own models, such as NVIDIA Cosmos.

  4. Legora CEO calls software sovereignty an excuse not to compete globally

Legora co-founder and CEO Max Junestrand said at the Wave by Vento event in Turin that talk of "sovereignty" in enterprise applications, consumer apps or the software layer is often an excuse for companies not bold enough to compete globally, since software's market is global. Sovereignty matters for energy, defence and infrastructure, he said, but buyers of enterprise software have offices in Europe, the US and Asia, so a sovereign product "doesn't really make any sense at all" for them. He also argued legal AI will end up with one worldwide winner, and said Legora went from about $1m in revenue to $100m in under 18 months, then to $200m in under six more, with $300m next.

  5. Minerva Humanoids raises ~$10M to build Roger, a VR-piloted bomb-disposal robot

San Francisco–based Minerva Humanoids left stealth this week with roughly $10M in pre-seed funding led by General Catalyst and including Hugging Face, unveiling Roger, a VR-piloted humanoid aimed at bomb disposal, hazmat calls and offshore rigs. A specialist wearing a VR headset sees through Roger's eyes and handles fine manipulation, while in-house AI runs balance, navigation and fall recovery; the company says it went from idea to a walking prototype in five months, with paid pilots in energy and explosive ordnance disposal starting this fall. The same newsletter also covered Agilink's OmniHand 3 Ultra performing Suzhou embroidery, MIT's SANDO trajectory planner, and a Fudan University microrobot that harvests power from the metal it walks on.
