  1. He Weiwen links AI investment boom to faster global trade growth

In an authorized Barron's article republished by TMTPost, China International Trade Society council member He Weiwen argues that booming AI investment and trade in related technology products are driving stronger Chinese and global trade growth, a dynamic he says cannot be explained by industrial overcapacity alone. He cites faster import growth for AI-related IT products and shifting regional balances, including large Chinese surpluses with the US and EU but an approximately balanced overall position with RCEP members. The article also cites WTO trade-outlook figures and regional export data to support its interpretation of AI-related supply chains.

  2. FT survey: 54% of 94 economists see AI gains spreading across G20

The Financial Times published a survey of 94 economists across Asia, the US and Europe on October 18. 54% expect many or nearly all G20 economies to see significant AI-driven growth and productivity gains over the next decade, rather than gains concentrating only in the US and China; 32 respondents expect African countries to fall behind. Huxiu AI notes the findings are forward-looking expectations, not measured growth, and that adoption depends on infrastructure, skills and business process changes.

  3. US pushes IMF, G20 partners to rename AI 'super intelligence'

Erin Browne, the US Treasury's under secretary for international affairs, told Reuters on Oct. 15 that Washington wants global partners to rename artificial intelligence as “Super Intelligence” (SI) and is negotiating with other IMF shareholders to have the term used in a statement by the International Monetary and Financial Committee. She said President Donald Trump ordered federal agencies last month to use the term, and that the US, as G20 president, wants wider international adoption. Some IMFC members were surprised by the US insistence, and reports said a fallback could avoid both “SI” and “AI” in favor of “emerging technologies,” or the IMFC chair could issue a chair's statement; Bloomberg separately reported that Trump's Super Intelligence Force agreed at its first meeting to address cybersecurity risks and to commission an AI risk report and early-warning protocols for labs.
