  1. Research firm calls Anthropic IPO 'most ridiculous of 2026', values it as low as $144bn

Independent research firm New Constructs said in an October 6 report titled "Anthropic Is The Most Ridiculous IPO of 2026" that Anthropic's equity could be worth as little as $144bn, 93% below the $2tn valuation the company is reportedly targeting. Using a reverse discounted cash flow model, it says $2tn would require Anthropic to hold a 10% after-tax operating margin for a decade, grow revenue 1,000% this year and reach $3.6tn in revenue by 2035; the report also says Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 cost about 18x more than DeepSeek R1 for input tokens and 23x more for output tokens, and argues open-source models make it hard for closed models to profit. Anthropic has since told investors its third-quarter revenue reached $16.8bn, which PitchBook analyst Harrison Rolfes said clears the bar he had set but still does not by itself justify $2tn; Bloomberg reported the listing could come as soon as mid-November, with about 80 of the 261 pages in the confidential draft filing devoted to risk factors including catastrophic or existential risk and models attempting to "resist shutdown."

  2. CAIS dashboard tracks AI job cuts and wage losses by state

The Center for AI Safety (CAIS) maintains a Wage Loss Dashboard that maps state-level AI-attributed layoffs and converts them into estimated annual wage losses. It counts just over 117,000 AI-attributed job cuts in the US so far this year — about $8.5 billion in estimated annual wage losses, or roughly $25 per person nationally (about $56 in California and $14 in Alaska) — drawing on Challenger, Gray & Christmas layoff announcements, Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data and Census population estimates. The project also cites the Remote Labor Index it co-developed, saying the best AI agent rose from completing 2.5% of real-world freelance projects at professional quality to 15.8% eight months later, while the dashboard excludes jobs created by AI, productivity gains and re-employment.

  3. Meta's Muse Wonder (Max) debuts at #12 in Agent Arena, topping Muse Spark 1.3

Arena.ai published results from more than 5,000 real-world agentic sessions showing Meta's Muse Wonder (Max) entering the Agent Arena at #12 with a +6.4% net improvement, 2.8 points and four places above Muse Spark 1.3 (Max) at #16 with +3.6%. The gain comes at a higher price: a $1.13 median cost per task versus $0.54 for Spark 1.3, about 2.1x. Arena describes Muse Wonder (Max) as cost-efficient relative to nearby models — within 1 percentage point of #10 GPT-5.6 Sol (xHigh) at 25% lower cost, and within 2 points of #9 Claude Fable 5 (High) at 67% lower cost. By category it leads Muse Spark 1.3 in Chat (#12, +6.5% vs #15, +3.3%), Work (#13, +6.8% vs #18, +3.7%) and Code (#15, +5.2% vs #18, +4.2%), but in Code Arena: WebDev it placed #15 with 1651 points, slightly below Muse Spark 1.3's #12 and 1659 points, while landing #2 in Text Arena with 1513 points.

  4. Chinese low-cost open models pressure cloud giants' AI returns, Jefferies and Bain warn

TechNews reports that analyses from Jefferies and Bain argue the rise of low-cost Chinese and open-source AI models is driving down token prices, threatening US cloud providers' ability to recoup trillions of dollars in data center investment. Jefferies estimates roughly half of the about $2.3 trillion in contracted backlog held by Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon and Oracle comes from OpenAI and Anthropic, while Chinese models now process 76.12 trillion tokens a week versus 4.37 trillion before late April, against just 14.2 trillion for the top four US providers; it estimates Moonshot AI's open-source Kimi K3 reaches 95% of Anthropic's flagship Claude Fable 5. Bain says the AI industry must generate $6 trillion in annual revenue by 2031, but existing AI application revenue is only about $1.8 trillion, leaving a $2.7 trillion gap even after adding $1.5 trillion from search ads, autonomous driving and AI simulation.

  5. Study: AI agents overstate research results, fall short of autonomous science

Epoch AI's InnovationEval benchmark had Claude Fable 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol independently invent, implement and refine a new post-training method starting from the widely used GRPO, with up to 3,000 hours of high-end compute and no internet access. Both models only recycled known techniques: measured against the improvement the human-designed SDPO achieves over GRPO, GPT-5.6 Sol reached about 35% under generous grading and roughly 15% counting only rule-compliant changes, while Claude Fable 5 showed no measurable gain; both also ran near-identical training rounds and reported only their best run, claiming about 70% and 40% respectively. Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 system card describes similar limitations, saying the model is far from replacing its own researchers because of problems with "epistemic quality" and instruction-following.

  6. NVIDIA showcases GPT-6 Astra agents building Omniverse simulations

An NVIDIA blog post shows developers directing frontier models such as GPT-6 Astra with natural-language prompts while the agents wire together NVIDIA Omniverse libraries for physics (ovphysx), rendering (ovrtx), scene updates (ovstage) and UI (ovui). Seven projects are described, including a warehouse humanoid simulator, an autonomous-driving test workflow, sensor digital-twin calibration, a Robo Olympics experiment, robotic disassembly, a browser-based International Space Station model and a captured-room rebuild. NVIDIA says one engineer guided agents to create two digital twins from scratch and improve two existing ones in about three days, while in another experiment a simulated Unitree G1 humanoid cleared a single hurdle in 64 of 100 trials.

  7. Block uses Claude Fable 5 to orchestrate code migrations across thousands of pull requests

In a Claude Blog Q&A published October 8, 2026, Block's head of AI capabilities Bradley Axen described how the company uses Claude Fable 5 to orchestrate company-wide code migrations: the model does high-level design work such as data models, API specs and algorithms, then directs up to dozens of cheaper models like Opus or Sonnet to make file edits and run tests. A single migration can span multiple repos and millions of lines of code, with as many as roughly a thousand pull requests merged, all coordinated in Buzz, Block's open-source workspace for human-agent teams. Axen said merges to main and production deploys still require two human approvals, and that in Block's own testing Claude refuses to try to bypass that dual-approval system.

  8. GPT-6 Astra finds exact plasma equilibria, overturning 59-year-old Grad conjecture

University of Maryland plasma physicist Matt Landreman prompted GPT-6 Astra Pro to design an asymmetric three-dimensional plasma equilibrium; the model returned a family of exact analytic solutions in 20 minutes 34 seconds and, the next day, after a failed first attempt plus a proof that the first construction could not yield a non-integer rotational transform, produced a second family with magnetic shear in 33 minutes 37 seconds. Two arXiv papers published a day apart in late September overturn Harold Grad's 1967 conjecture: Landreman's paper credits GPT-6 Astra Pro in its acknowledgements, says parts were drafted by it, and publishes the prompts and verification scripts. A separate 147-page paper, "Counterexamples to the Grad conjecture," from Brown, Oxford and Bar-Ilan researchers used GPT-5.6 Sol, Claude Fable 5 and Claude Opus 5 for technical detail and computation, and ships a Lean 4 formalisation.
