ICANN's new gTLD round: OpenAI, Google and Meta all bid for .agent
ICANN published the applicant list for the 2026 round of new generic top-level domains, with 481 applicants filing 1,615 applications — the first such round since 2012. AI-related strings are the contested names: OpenAI, Meta and Google all applied for .agent, while OpenAI also applied for .agi, .model and .mcp.
Why it matters: The applications show major AI players trying to claim AI keywords such as "agent" inside their own namespace, though applying does not mean winning operating rights.
網際網路名稱與數位位址分配機構（ICANN）公布2026年新一輪通用頂級網域申請名單，共有481個申請者提出1,615件申請，這是繼2012年後，睽違14年再度公布新一輪申請名單。AI相關名稱成為競爭焦點，OpenAI、Meta與Google都申請.agent，也就是「代理」相關頂級網域，OpenAI另申請.agi、.model及.mcp等名稱。
頂級網域是網址最右側的名稱，例如.com或.org。若申請通過，申請者將取得該頂級網域的營運資格，管理其底下的網域名稱，現階段公布的仍只是申請名單，不代表ICANN已經核准，也不表示.agent等網域現在就能註冊。
AI相關申請中，.agent出現多家業者競逐，網域產業媒體Domain Name Wire依公開名單整理，共有13件.agent申請，包括Google、Meta與OpenAI。OpenAI總計提出15件申請，除了.openai、.chatgpt、.gpt等自家品牌，也申請代表代理的.agent、通用人工智慧縮寫.agi、模型.model、技能.skill及語音.voice等名稱。
Google也申請多個AI及開發工具相關名稱，包括.agent、.deepmind、.gemini、.mcp，以及代表應用程式介面的.api等。當不同申請者爭取相同頂級網域時，後續還要經過ICANN的評估與競爭處理，相同名稱不會由多個申請者同時取得。
ICANN統計，本輪1,615件申請中有333件屬於品牌申請，另有16件為社群型申請、15件涉及地理名稱，以及21件可使用不同文字系統的國際化網域名稱申請。申請來源以北美864件最多，其次為歐洲506件，亞洲、澳洲與太平洋地區共有218件。相較之下，2012年上一輪共收到1,930件申請。
申請名單接下來仍可能調整，ICANN自10月8日至21日開放符合資格的申請者改用事先提出的備選名稱，11月17日再公布確認後的最終名單，接著進入公眾意見、異議及評估階段。名稱評估預計約需180天，因此目前出現在申請名單中的AI相關頂級網域，仍要經過後續評估，若有異議或名稱競爭也須完成相關處理，之後才可能正式啟用。
