iPhone Duo preorders slip to late January, a record wait for Apple
Apple opened iPhone Duo preorders on October 16, but within about half an hour the US online store showed a January 25 ship date for every color, capacity and carrier configuration — a record wait for a new iPhone. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman attributed the backlog mainly to "extraordinary supply chain constraints," with tricky components reportedly hitting high failure rates in manufacturing. Buyers wanting one sooner can try carriers or retailers: T-Mobile and Best Buy list October 23 to November 3, AT&T shows November 9 or December 1, and Verizon November 6 to December 4; the phone goes on sale in the US on October 23, and Apple stores typically hold limited in-store stock.
It shows how tight production is for Apple's first foldable phone, which could shape early sales of its premium lineup.
