- iPhone Duo preorders slip to late January, a record wait for Apple
Apple opened iPhone Duo preorders on October 16, but within about half an hour the US online store showed a January 25 ship date for every color, capacity and carrier configuration — a record wait for a new iPhone. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman attributed the backlog mainly to "extraordinary supply chain constraints," with tricky components reportedly hitting high failure rates in manufacturing. Buyers wanting one sooner can try carriers or retailers: T-Mobile and Best Buy list October 23 to November 3, AT&T shows November 9 or December 1, and Verizon November 6 to December 4; the phone goes on sale in the US on October 23, and Apple stores typically hold limited in-store stock.
ZDNET AI · 🔥 23 - Verizon gives eligible customers six months of Google AI Pro free
Verizon announced that eligible customers can get six months of Google AI Pro at no cost, whereas the perk was previously only a discount that still left users paying $10 per month alongside their phone or internet plan. Google AI Pro is Google's mid-tier AI plan, priced at $19.99 per month. Verizon is also including Verizon Family and Call Filter at no extra cost, giving free-tier Digital Secure subscribers one month of Digital Secure Premium, and previewing upcoming Verizon Shine loyalty experiences such as a Walt Disney Studios visit and Radio City Rockettes tickets.
Android Authority · 🔥 3 - Laplace Intelligence red-teams robots and self-driving cars in simulation
Laplace Intelligence, an Ann Arbor startup founded a year ago out of the University of Michigan, is building automated red-teaming for robots and other physical AI, using a high-fidelity simulator post-trained from Nvidia's Cosmos world model and AI agents that design corner cases on their own. CEO and co-founder Howie Sun said the environments are rebuilt to scale from real map data with live traffic, and that other actors in the scene react to the vehicle under test, so problems can be found and fixed before deployment. Customers include Japanese truck maker Isuzu, Texas-based autonomous trucking firm Bot Auto and Nvidia, and the company is working with T-Mobile on a free smart-city traffic pilot for San Jose while starting early work with warehouse humanoid robotics partners.
