Trump's push to rename AI 'Super Intelligence' draws skepticism
In a UN speech, Trump argued the word "artificial" makes intelligence seem fake and pledged to rename the technology "super intelligence"; an executive order last week discourages use of "AI" wherever possible. Agencies have followed — the Center for AI Standards and Innovation became the Center for Advancing Innovation and Standards for Super Intelligence, and a Justice Department release described a streaming-fraud case as "Super Intelligence-Assisted." Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Jensen Huang and Sam Altman have embraced the term, though Altman said OpenAI will not change its name.
The rebrand signals a deregulatory, accelerationist posture toward frontier AI, but it cannot bind Congress or remove "artificial intelligence" from existing law, so its practical reach is limited.
Trump’s attempt to rename AI is looking awfully artificial
A ‘super’ new euphemism probably isn’t enough to make Americans forget their concerns about AI.
