MSI Pro Max Edge AI+ review: a $5,499 mini workstation built to run local LLMs
TechRadar reviewed the MSI Pro Max Edge AI+, a mini workstation with AMD's Ryzen AI Max+ 395 (16-core/32-thread Zen 5), Radeon 8060S integrated graphics and an XDNA NPU, paired with 128GB of unified memory (up to 96GB allocatable to the GPU) and a claimed 126 TOPS combined. The reviewer used Lemonade to download and manage local models, running Flux, Qwen3 and Qwen3 Coder to sort over 2,600 images, generate images and build a ten-page website in Visual Studio Code, and edited 4K Canon EOS R5 C footage without trouble. Drawbacks include the high price ($5,499 in the US, £5,999 in the UK), only 2.5GbE networking, and the setup effort local AI still requires.
It shows that big-unified-memory mini workstations can now run large models fully offline, though cost and configuration overhead remain high.
