Gemini's floating overlay may soon offer 'Shop this' product lookup
A code teardown by Android Authority indicates Google is developing a "Shop this" screen-context shopping suggestion for Gemini's floating overlay (Floaty UI), with the code found in version 17.66.11.sa.arm64 of the Google Android app. According to AIbase, users browsing products inside third-party apps would not need to switch apps or search manually: Gemini would recognize the item on screen, find where to buy it, summarize key selling points, compare specs and sizes, and suggest similar alternatives in different styles. Both outlets say the feature is in early development and testing, with its final form and app coverage still unconfirmed by Google.
If shipped, it would put product recognition and comparison directly over any mobile app screen, potentially shifting where mobile search and shopping traffic begin.
