Warp Sciences raises $215M for AI-driven automated chemistry labs
Kevin Weil has launched Warp Sciences with $215 million in funding led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, valuing the startup at $865 million including the new money, according to Bloomberg and The Next Web. The company plans a US chemistry laboratory where AI designs experiments, robots execute them, and resulting data improves later experiments, initially focusing on molecular-variant synthesis during lead optimization. MIT Technology Review China reports that the lab remains under development and that Warp Sciences has not published turnaround-time, cost or model-performance data.
The launch puts substantial capital behind a laboratory-scale effort to connect AI with real-world experimental data, while its claimed speed and cost advantages remain unverified.

Kevin Weil, who led OpenAI for Science, has launched Warp Sciences with $215M led by Lightspeed, valuing it at $865M, Bloomberg reported. It is building an automated lab in the US for a drug development step that pharma companies have long outsourced to Chinese firms such as WuXi AppTec.
