AI data center power demand drives energy equipment focus at Taiwan Smart Energy Week
The 2026 Taiwan International Smart Energy Week and Net Zero Sustainability Expo opens October 14, with Delta Electronics, Bloom Energy, Teco and Eaton set to show solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), microgrids, solid-state transformers (SST), distribution and energy storage aimed at powering and managing AI data centers. The IEA's latest report said global data center electricity use rose 17% in 2025, far above roughly 3% growth in overall power demand; the IEA had previously estimated that about 20% of planned data center capacity could be delayed by grid constraints. Supply chain sources said lead times for large transformers have stretched to 3–4 years, tightening equipment supply and pushing on-site generation and microgrids as alternatives for companies facing long grid-connection waits.
Power availability and grid connection are now practical bottlenecks for AI data center buildouts, so equipment supply and on-site generation can shape when compute comes online.
