  1. AI data center power demand drives energy equipment focus at Taiwan Smart Energy Week

The 2026 Taiwan International Smart Energy Week and Net Zero Sustainability Expo opens October 14, with Delta Electronics, Bloom Energy, Teco and Eaton set to show solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), microgrids, solid-state transformers (SST), distribution and energy storage aimed at powering and managing AI data centers. The IEA's latest report said global data center electricity use rose 17% in 2025, far above roughly 3% growth in overall power demand; the IEA had previously estimated that about 20% of planned data center capacity could be delayed by grid constraints. Supply chain sources said lead times for large transformers have stretched to 3–4 years, tightening equipment supply and pushing on-site generation and microgrids as alternatives for companies facing long grid-connection waits.

  2. Oracle turns to trucked gas to keep AI data centres on schedule

Oracle is trucking compressed natural gas to AI data centres that cannot yet connect to a pipeline, reportedly keeping a site outside Salt Lake City running for more than a year and powering early work at an OpenAI campus in Shackelford County, Texas. The company is weighing the same approach for Project Jupiter in New Mexico — a planned 2.45 GW site using Bloom Energy solid-oxide fuel cells — after state land officials twice refused rights-of-way for Energy Transfer's pipeline, and Oracle has sent the developer a force majeure notice. East Daley Analytics told Bloomberg that delivered trucked gas costs about four times hub prices once labour, equipment and fuel are counted, while SemiAnalysis estimates each large trailer would supply roughly 40 minutes of power for a 100 MW load.

  3. Bloom Energy to supply SOFC on-site power for AOI's GigaLight

Bloom Energy is moving into Taiwan's AI optical-communications supply chain: Hexi Energy said it will help GigaLight, the Taiwan operating site of US optical-component maker Applied Optoelectronics (AOI), install Bloom Energy solid-oxide fuel cell (SOFC) on-site power generation to improve supply reliability during expansion. Hexi Energy is acting as EPC contractor for planning, design, equipment integration and construction, with the project slated for completion and operation in Q1 2027. The project has applied for a Ministry of Economic Affairs Energy Administration subsidy for stationary fuel-cell systems; eligibility and amount are still under review.

  4. TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 unveils roundtable and AI infrastructure agenda

TechCrunch has published the interactive roundtable lineup for Disrupt 2026, taking place October 13–15 at Moscone West in San Francisco, where the organizer expects 10,000+ founders, investors, operators and tech leaders (it is promoting a $100 pass discount and 50% off a second pass). Roundtable topics include data challenges for physical AI, AI's effect on enterprise software, specialty post-training data, and moving agentic AI from pilot to trusted production. A separate Smart Systems Stage session features Ambrosia Energy CEO Ben Longmier and Bloom Energy SVP and Head of Datacenter Solutions Bill Thayer on where power, grid, data center and cooling constraints are creating AI infrastructure opportunities.
