J.P. Morgan: TSMC targets H1 2028 for 1.4nm mass production, Apple A22 Pro may follow
J.P. Morgan analysts expect TSMC to begin mass production of its next-generation A14 (1.4nm) node in the first half of 2028, with pilot production in Q3 2027 across four fabs, according to reports from TechNews and Wccftech. The note raises the likelihood that Apple's flagship iPhones adopt A14 silicon in the second half of 2028; Wccftech says Apple may introduce an A22 Pro on the node, while IT之家 reports Apple plans to spend heavily to lock in early capacity. Neither Apple nor TSMC has confirmed a capacity reservation, and the estimated wafer cost of about $45,000 is an analyst projection.
The reports frame TSMC's 1.4nm timeline and Apple's early capacity planning as responses to AI-driven demand for leading-edge chips.
