Claude reportedly restricts game cloning and reverse engineering
cnBeta, citing an X user, reported that a Claude usage clause allows original games, games within a genre, and projects using users’ own designs and assets, but prohibits replicating a specific existing game even if it is renamed or called original. Users also reported that Claude was less willing to reproduce game mechanics or recreate existing games. Other reports said Claude refused to call the “Reverse Engineer Anything” capability, which had been used for tasks including unlocking vendor restrictions on smart TVs, adding functions to car infotainment systems, and recompiling games for other platforms. Claude’s GitHub pages reportedly saw new issues from users whose work required similar mechanics.
The reported restriction affects workflows involving game replication, reverse engineering, platform recompilation, and other uses of existing software, showing that the rule and reported refusals extended beyond building an original game.
