Anthropic report: agent work hours hit 6x human, entry-level tech hiring falls
Anthropic published a report on October 16 saying that roughly five years after founding, its revenue per employee is 2–4x that of Meta and Google during their high-growth periods, based on internal financial and headcount records through April 2026 compared, inflation-adjusted, with the two companies' public filings at age five. Entry-level staff fell from 21% of the technical workforce in early 2025 to 14%, and entry-level technical hiring from 27% to 9%, with about a third of ML managers and a fifth of software engineering managers saying AI led them to hire less. The report also says coding agents lifted per-engineer code commits to 5x the level six months earlier (tracking 192 engineers, with no worsening in rollbacks), and that by August 2026 employee-deployed interactive agents logged 6x the work hours of humans, after total agent hours first passed human hours in March. A separate survey of 1,334 staff found most Anthropic employees expect AI could do at least 80% of their work by 2030, versus about 5% of US workers who agreed.
It is an unusually detailed, self-reported look at how AI is already reshaping hiring and output inside a frontier lab — a possible early signal of what other firms may face.
