Murata to Invest ¥1 Trillion to Expand MLCC Capacity for AI
Murata Manufacturing plans to invest ¥1 trillion over five years to expand multilayer ceramic capacitor capacity for AI servers and devices, according to TechNews citing Nikkei and the company’s investment plan. Annual spending would be about ¥200 billion, with ¥350 billion allocated to plant construction and ¥650 billion to equipment in Japan, China and ASEAN.
The expansion targets a supply shortage in high-end MLCCs used in AI servers, with Murata saying it holds more than 50% of that market; however, some analysts cited by TechNews question the durability of AI demand and the risk of overinvestment.
