Deutsche Bank: AI debt splits into three tiers, Oracle the key warning sign
Deutsche Bank Research plotted every bond in the USD investment-grade and high-yield indices by yield and maturity, marking AI-related issuers, and concluded AI financing costs are not yet outlandishly high versus the rest of the credit market, though spreads are widening at the far end of the curve. It sorts AI borrowers into tiers: AA-rated Meta, Alphabet, Nvidia and Amazon fund at about 5–5.5% at the short end; BBB-rated Oracle and SpaceX yield roughly 8–8.5% at 10–12-year duration, some 150–200bp above peers; most high-yield AI names are BB at 7–11%. CoreWeave is the exception at 15–19%, its four-month-old unsecured 2032 bond below 80 cents on the dollar and five-year CDS at 1,118bp on Wednesday, the same day Gartner forecast over 80% of emerging cloud providers will lose independent operations before 2030. Deutsche Bank calls Oracle the key warning sign — its five-year CDS widened 36bp in two days to 288bp — warning a downgrade from BBB could force investment-grade-only funds to sell.
If Oracle loses its investment-grade rating, forced selling could turn a periphery worry into a broader credit-market test.
