  1. Apple's Phone app adds AI Call Context in iOS 27 alongside Hold Assist and Call Screening

9to5Mac rounds up the newer features in the iPhone Phone app: Hold Assist, added with iOS 26, detects when a caller is placed on hold and notifies the user when the other party returns, while Call Screening asks callers from unsaved numbers to explain who they are and why they are calling before the iPhone rings, with the answer shown on the Lock Screen. Both can be turned on in Settings, then Apps, then Phone. Coming with iOS 27, Call Context is an Apple Intelligence feature that surfaces relevant information, such as an airline confirmation code from Mail or a recent order number, on screen during calls to businesses. The report says Call Context requires iPhone 15 Pro or later and that iOS 27 is in developer and public beta testing, though the same article gives conflicting rollout timing, saying "next month" in one place and September in another.

  2. Apple Intelligence, Qwen added to China iPhone filings; December launch planned

Multiple China-market iPhones received updated regulatory filings on September 29 carrying three large-model registration numbers: Apple Intelligence (Shanghai-AppleZhiNeng-202506160057), Tongyi Wanxiang (Shanghai-TongYiWanXiang-202410090024) and Tongyi Qianwen (ZheJiang-TongYiQianWen-20230901), according to IT之家 and cnBeta. The filings cover iPhone 15 Pro / Pro Max and later models, plus iPhone Air and the foldable iPhone Duo — matching the device list that supports Apple Intelligence. Apple Technology Development (Shanghai)'s Apple Intelligence model was registered on July 8, 2026 for use on Apple phones, and Alibaba has said Qwen will be integrated into Apple Intelligence to bring text and image understanding and content generation to Chinese users across iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS. Bloomberg reports Apple plans to launch Apple Intelligence in mainland China in December via iOS 27.3, without Siri AI features.
