  1. Alibaba's Joseph Tsai: in five years AI will be like today's internet

Speaking at the Wave by Vento 2026 tech and investment event in Turin, Italy, Alibaba Group chairman Joseph Tsai said AI will move from a headline topic to invisible infrastructure. In five years people may no longer discuss AI separately, he said, because it will be woven into every part of business just as the internet is today; terminology may evolve as the technology spreads, but AI will remain a fundamental breakthrough shaping business and society.

  2. DoorDash CEO Tony Xu: AI agents will increase demand for human labour

DoorDash co-founder and CEO Tony Xu said at Wave by Vento in Turin that AI agents have probably already overtaken humans in the number of things they do on the internet, and that because they favour recurring tasks with a physical component — shopping, eating, picking up or returning items — more agents will mean more demand for physical delivery networks and for human labour. He pointed to DoorDash's ordering agent launched inside Apple Messages in September, its Dot delivery robot now running in Phoenix (which he said has made live deliveries to tens of thousands of customers) and its drone system unveiled in September. Xu said the most important piece is the platform behind them, which decides for each order whether a land robot, a drone or a human Dasher takes it — and a person and a robot can share one route.

  3. Alibaba's Joe Tsai: open source is Europe's only path to AI independence

Alibaba chairman Joe Tsai said at the Wave by Vento event in Turin that open-source AI is the only way for Europe to achieve technology independence and "AI sovereignty," urging the region to build its own computing infrastructure to train and run models. He said Alibaba narrowed itself in 2023 to two businesses — e-commerce and "full-stack" AI — and uses about $25bn a year of e-commerce free cash flow to fund the AI push, doubling computing-infrastructure capex each of the past three years. Tsai also estimated US hyperscalers will invest roughly $1tn this year, a scale China cannot match, though China accounts for about 30% of global industrial production, giving it valuable factory data and EV, battery and robotics supply chains.
