   Vertex Ventures' Xia Zhijin: embodied AI won't see a winner-take-all endgame

   In an interview with Cyzone during the 2026 DEMO CHINA event, Vertex Ventures China managing partner Xia Zhijin argued that embodied AI will not end in a winner-take-all market and may end up less concentrated than the auto industry, with many scenario-specific leaders rather than one general-purpose company covering every use case. He said deployment will be gradual, with robots of different forms targeting different domains over the next few years before capabilities become more general beyond five years. Xia identified data as the biggest bottleneck for embodied foundation models, citing high cost and low information density compared with internet text, and said data companies should layer cleaning, labeling and downstream use on top of collection to avoid price wars and homogenization; he added that simulated data can help generalization and long-tail corner cases across pretraining and later training stages.

   Flowtica raises tens of millions of yuan for its Verso e-ink agent device

   36Kr's Hardcore report says Flowtica AI, founded by a Hong Kong University of Science and Technology graduate who studied under Li Zexiang, has closed a new round of tens of millions of yuan from Vertex Ventures China, Source Code Capital, 5Y Capital and the Clear Water Bay Fund, with Shanyu Capital as exclusive financial adviser. The startup's second product, Verso, is a 6.5mm, 78g magnetic e-ink device with an always-on display, physical buttons, a four-microphone array and a bone-conduction sensor, positioned as a "personal context OS" spanning memory, attention and workflow closure. Flowtica says Verso was unveiled at IFA in Germany in September, deposits opened this week, and first mass-production units are due to ship in December; it also says 42% of activated users of its earlier Scribe recorder became paying subscribers.
