Spotify said Tuesday it has removed more than 50 million tracks it deemed AI-generated slop or spam from user recommendations over the past year, and that it changed its recommendation system over the past six months to surface more music by human artists. The songs remain on the service but are no longer suggested by Spotify's algorithms or editors, the company said, adding that listener complaints about such content have since dropped. Spotify did not say how many of the 50 million were made with AI rather than other kinds of spam, and its detection combines listener behaviour, upload patterns, track metadata and third-party AI tools that it acknowledges have limitations.
