  1. Nvidia to invest $1B over five years in U.S. superintelligence science infrastructure

Nvidia announced at a "Science: A New Golden Age" event in Washington, D.C., that it will spend $1 billion over the next five years to upgrade U.S. superintelligence research and scientific infrastructure, focused on quantum computing, healthcare, energy security and materials science. The funding targets three areas: U.S. higher-education research institutions, expanded quantum computing investment, and cloud service providers handling U.S. government projects; Nvidia also pledged access to high-performance computing and AI infrastructure for researchers. Nvidia said it will take part in selected second-phase projects of the U.S. government's Genesis Mission, deepen its Department of Energy partnership by continuing to support Argonne National Laboratory's large scientific supercomputer, and add a total of seven advanced computing systems at Argonne and Los Alamos National Laboratory. CEO Jensen Huang said the money would help U.S. scientists accelerate breakthroughs in medicine, energy and materials and turn scientific leadership into industrial competitiveness and jobs.

  2. SIA report maps hidden vulnerabilities in US chip supply chain

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) released a report mapping the global upstream supply chain behind the US chip ecosystem: of the roughly $27 billion in equipment and materials US semiconductor firms buy each year, 95% comes from suppliers headquartered in the US, Europe and Japan, but measured by actual production or assembly location that share falls to 68%, with reliance on mainland China, Israel, Southeast Asia, South Korea and Taiwan rising to 32%. Using a five-factor "vulnerability index" across 200 Tier-1 inputs and nearly 100 upstream inputs, SIA found about half of Tier-1 categories rate high (11%) or medium (38) vulnerability, nearly one-third of upstream inputs are highly vulnerable, and when sub-tier dependencies are counted, more than three-quarters of Tier-1 categories link to at least one highly vulnerable upstream input. The report recommends expanding domestic capacity and strategic stockpiles, securing allied supply, reducing dependence on rare earths and critical minerals, and funding materials-science and recycling research.

  3. Anthropic commits $150M to the Genesis Mission science initiative

Anthropic says it will commit $150 million over three years to the Genesis Mission, a US federal initiative to speed scientific and technological discovery with AI, making Claude, Claude Code and API credits available to more than 15 participating agencies including NASA, the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, plus training and technical support for hundreds of research projects. The pledge was announced at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy's "Science: A New Golden Age" summit and follows Anthropic's December partnership with the US Department of Energy and the Genesis Mission. Anthropic also pointed to Claude Science, its research workbench, which was used to produce the first complete ultraviolet map of the sky, a project led by Johns Hopkins astrophysicist Brice Ménard with AI agents handling data merging and gap-filling.
