  1. Anthropic's Scion accused of deliberately copying Meta's Mononoke data model

In a follow-up post about Anthropic's Scion version control system, blogger sunshowers says the project did not merely borrow unintentionally from Meta's Mononoke but deliberately and blatantly ripped it off, claiming he privately received confirmation and that there was overlap in personnel. He argues the resemblance goes far beyond the general idea of derived data, extending to the entire data model: Scion's changesets are described as essentially identical to Mononoke's Bonsai changesets, and he notes even the name "Scion" reverses the syllables of "Bonsai" and drops the "B". The author says he has no problem with good ideas being copied, only with credit being stripped, and that crediting Sapling with "hard-won lessons" is not enough — which makes Anthropic's "our LLM rebuilt and productionized this in five months" story less impressive, though still notable. As of the post, Anthropic had not updated its original write-up or responded.

  2. Anthropic's Scion accused of copying Meta's Mononoke design

An engineer who helped build Meta's Mononoke source control server published a post arguing that Anthropic's new Scion version control system uses the same "derived data" concept in a way that goes well beyond sharing similar insights. He notes that Anthropic's engineering post credited Sapling only for "hard-won lessons" and never mentioned Mononoke, calling this close to plagiarism, while adding that he does not object to Anthropic reusing the open-source design — the post also says that both Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra immediately point to Mononoke when asked about prior art.

  3. Anthropic replaces Git with in-house Scion as Claude-generated code surges

Anthropic disclosed in an engineering blog post that it has moved its main monorepo off Git and onto an in-house version control system called Scion. Anthropic says merged code changes rose from about 2,500 per day in May 2026 to more than 30,000 per day by September, with main-branch history near 100 GB and CI performing roughly 25 million code checkouts daily; Scion moves operations such as commits, merges and history queries to servers while clients keep only limited caches. Anthropic's internal measurements put Scion's infrastructure CPU and memory use at about one two-hundredth of the Git mirror setup it replaced, with checkouts falling from minutes to seconds and CI saving about 25% of CPU capacity; the system was built by a seven-person team over five months with help from Claude, and Anthropic stresses Scion targets very large repositories and many online agents rather than serving as a general Git replacement.
