  1. SAP report: UK firms' AI spend up 27% as data and governance lag

According to an SAP report, the average UK business now spends £20.6 million a year on AI, a 27% increase from £16.2 million in 2025, and SAP expects a further 45% rise between 2026 and 2028 to nearly £30 million annually. The report projects average ROI rising from 17% in 2025 to 22% in what it calls "this year" and as much as 39% by 2028, yet only 11% of businesses are said to have a strategic, holistic approach to AI investment, while around 70% are piloting agentic AI use cases. Poor data foundations are cited as the main barrier — 71% point to poor data quality, 70% to incomplete information, 65% to siloed systems and 62% to limited real-time data access — and among agentic AI users, 49% worry deployment is outpacing governance, with just 9% considering their governance skills fully ready.

  2. Microsoft nears first record close in a year as AI spending fears ease

Microsoft rose as much as 1.8% to $551.13 on Tuesday morning in New York, on track for its first record close since October 2025, after closing Monday at $541.15 and a roughly $4T market value. The stock has gained more than 50% from a June low, adding about $1.5T in market value, after falling 17% in June — its worst month since 2000. The recovery followed Azure growth of 43% versus 40% expected, pushing Azure past $100B in annual revenue for the first time; shares jumped 16% the next day and the company posted its best quarter since 1998. SAP, hit by the same AI-disruption panic, is still down about 35% for the year and traded at €193.91 on Monday, while Microsoft also faces an unresolved June shareholder lawsuit alleging it concealed slowing Azure growth.

  3. Ex-SenseTime VP's startup Firmior AI raises over $10M for private enterprise agents

Firmior AI, a Chinese enterprise-agent platform company founded only three months ago, said it has closed seed and angel rounds totaling more than $10 million, with the angel round co-led by Jinqiu Fund and the Hong Kong High-Talent Startup Investment Fund, while seed investors joined as individuals from several industries and serve as strategic advisors. Based in Shenzhen's Qianhai and Hong Kong, it was founded and is led by CEO Leo Liu, a former first vice president and commercialization head at SenseTime who also held roles at SAP, Oracle and Microsoft and served as CEO of GitLab's China joint venture. The company is building a full-stack, private-deployment enterprise agent platform spanning an inference server layer (FEAS), a middle layer called Firmior OS for enterprise memory, knowledge, workflows and governance, and three applications: Firmior Code, Firmior Work and Firmior Expert. Firmior AI says its first enterprise customer bought the full platform in its first quarter and expanded the purchase after one month of use, with daily agent token calls up fivefold within two months and a 92.5% 30-day active rate — figures the company attributes to that single customer.

  4. SailPoint's Mark McClain: AI agent identities need unified governance

SailPoint CEO and founder Mark McClain told Hong Kong and Taiwan media during a late-September visit that enterprises are moving toward a "hybrid workforce" of humans and AI agents, and that the core challenge is building a unified control plane that covers both human and non-human identity risk. He said many companies hold large numbers of ungoverned non-human identities, including API tokens, service accounts, software bots and autonomous agents, sometimes outnumbering human identities by 100 times, and cited a recent Hugging Face incident involving AI as an example of missing detection, governance and blocking controls. SailPoint said it shipped related security offerings in May and October and acquired Israeli startup Entro in June, whose technology it says can discover roughly 1,200 distinct non-human identity types; McClain said the company manages hundreds of millions of identities, retains 97% of customers and expects Asia to contribute about 15% of annual recurring revenue.

  5. SAP's Sean Kask: software firms must become AI companies or perish

SAP chief AI strategy officer Sean Kask said at Wave by Vento in Turin that established software companies must rebuild their products around AI rather than adding it as another feature. He highlighted SAP's July acquisition of German tabular foundation model startup Prior Labs, with a commitment of more than €1bn over four years to grow it into a frontier AI lab, alongside SAP's in-house SAP-RPT-1 tabular model already in production. Kask said SAP does not build its own large language model, instead testing more than 100 models from providers including Google, OpenAI, Anthropic and Mistral and picking the best per use case, and argued Europe should not enter the LLM "red ocean".

  6. Mastra launches certified Agency Program with five launch partners

Mastra announced the Mastra Agency Program, a network of certified agencies and consultancies that build Mastra agents for their clients, aimed at teams that want agents in production but lack in-house expertise. It launches with five partners: Deerfield Group, Blue Drop Labs, Frontleap, Handpicked and Young Security, the last of which designs, builds and operates production AI agents on Mastra. Mastra says every partner was vetted by its FDE team and gets a direct line to the founding team, regular partnership and roadmap updates, and a voice in the product's direction.

  7. AI office is at its 1972 moment; what's missing is human-agent delegation

36Kr republished a speculative essay by Tan Li, co-founder of Shushi Technology, arguing that today's AI office products sit roughly where enterprise software was around 1972: Tencent WorkBuddy, Alibaba's Qwen Office and ByteDance's Doubao Work compete hard, but no shared abstraction yet ties them together. He proposes "responsibility conservation" — every agent action must trace back to a human authorization and leave an auditable record — and says the endgame is a "digital employee" that delivers outcomes rather than an efficiency tool sold per seat or per token. The real bottleneck, he argues, is that authentication, authorization and audit for human-agent delegation remain unstandardized, with policy design still largely blank.

  8. AWS outlines Agentic Value Model for justifying agentic automation

An AWS Machine Learning Blog post proposes an “Agentic Value Model” for building the business case for agentic automation, arguing that the RPA-era ROI formula (hours saved × loaded rate − build cost) misses exception handling, decision quality, and change resilience and maintenance economics. It lays out four value pools and stresses that every benefit needs a defined realization mechanism and an accountable owner. The post cites early deployments of Amazon Quick Automate: Kitsa reports 91% cost savings, 96% faster data acquisition and 96% coverage; dLocal says it automates up to 75% of merchant-compliance reviews in controlled evaluations; and Genpact reports cutting supply-chain disruption analysis from 2–3 days to minutes.

  9. SAP turns Joule into an agentic work layer as Autonomous Enterprise hits GA

At SAP Connect 2026, SAP said the Autonomous Enterprise architecture it introduced in May is generally available this month, alongside Joule Work and Joule Desktop, extending Joule from an in-app assistant into an agentic work layer that spans SAP and non-SAP applications. SAP's chief product officer said industry agents for finance, supply chain, spend, workforce/customer experience and other areas will roll out through October, with monetization mainly consumption-based via AI units. SAP says humans retain governance, auditability and transparency, and argues that general-purpose models layered on enterprise data cannot substitute for its ERP semantics and knowledge graph — a promotional claim.
