Fitbit Air gains LLM-powered workout detection, over 100 activities

Google announced an upgraded automatic workout-detection system for Fitbit Air, rolling out later this month to Pixel Watch 3, 4 and 5 as well as the newly announced Fitbit Edge. The update uses a new motion-detection software model and LLM reasoning that combines location and routine with movement data to classify activity; Google says this doubles classification accuracy and cuts missed workouts by more than half, while expanding recognizable activities from about 10 to over 100, including strength training and swimming. Google is also bringing Health Guardian health-monitoring features to Fitbit Air and Fitbit Edge, though these require a Google Health Premium subscription ($9.99 / £7.99 / AU$14.99 per month).
