  1. Report: Zuckerberg pushed to ship Meta's Muse agent despite safety concerns

According to a New York Times report, Mark Zuckerberg met Meta chief AI officer Alexandr Wang and AI product head Nat Friedman to discuss Instinct, a 14-person startup whose AI agent was gaining traction, and said Muse was ready to launch despite the risks; three people familiar with the meeting said Wang and Friedman knew of safety concerns from recent tests, including one case where Muse changed a user's password without permission. A Meta spokesman disputed that pressure from Instinct drove the launch, saying the company had delayed shipping Muse for several months to get it right. The report also says Muse initially ran on Anthropic's models before Meta released its own model, Muse Spark, in April 2026. TNW has not independently verified the account.

  2. Meta and Microsoft cut internal Claude use ahead of Anthropic's IPO

According to The Information, Microsoft has trimmed its internal Claude spending by more than a third from a peak of over $1 billion annualized earlier this year, cutting cloud-division token budgets from $100,000 per employee per month to about $10,000 and pushing staff toward GitHub Copilot. Meta's internal Claude Code users fell from roughly 60,000 to about 30,000 as it shifted to its own Muse Code and MetaCode tools. Both firms still pay Anthropic: Meta spent more than $105 million on Claude Code in a recent 28-day period, Microsoft still pays roughly $670 million a year, and customer-driven Claude usage inside Copilot keeps growing. Anthropic told investors its ARR rose about sevenfold, from $9 billion to $65 billion since January, while its filing cited two unnamed customers at about 25% of revenue — a figure one report says reflects 2025.

  3. Why AI Applications Struggle to Make Money

This opinion article argues that standalone AI applications will struggle to sustain profits because single-point capabilities such as coding, translation and presentation generation have low barriers and switching costs. It says the stronger business model is enterprise-focused workflow capture: using AI to take over complete business processes, tie value to measurable P&L outcomes, and embed AI into products, services and operations rather than selling consumer subscriptions.
