   Zhang Qi named chairman of Microsoft Asia-Pacific R&D Group

   Microsoft announced that Dr. Zhang Qi, a corporate vice president and head of the Microsoft Asia Internet Engineering Institute, is taking over as chairman of the Microsoft Asia-Pacific R&D Group, with predecessor Dr. Wang Yongdong retiring. According to Cyzone, Zhang joined Microsoft's US headquarters in 2002 and has worked across AI, machine learning, big data and distributed computing, contributing to Microsoft 365, Copilot, Windows, Office, Azure AI, Bing and Microsoft Ads, and building teams in search advertising, big data, knowledge graphs, commercial AI and AI platforms. The report says he became a Microsoft Technical Fellow in 2018, was promoted to corporate vice president in 2021, became president of Microsoft AI Asia-Pacific in 2024 and took over the Asia Internet Engineering Institute in 2026.
