   OpenAI Startup Fund and Founders Fund back Coherence Neuro's $45M seed

   OpenAI's venture capital arm and Peter Thiel's Founders Fund are investing in Coherence Neuro, a San Francisco startup developing a brain implant to detect and treat cancer, as part of a $45 million seed round, WIRED AI reported. Coherence says it already knows how to detect brain-tumor electrical signals in animals to tell whether cancer is growing, shrinking or recurring, and this summer it briefly tested its implant's recording ability in three people undergoing brain tumor removal at Royal Melbourne Hospital, with the device in place for about 30 minutes as an initial safety check. The company next plans to test recording and stimulation in seven more patients and to use the funding for a clinical trial implanting the device long-term in glioblastoma patients; CEO Ben Woodington said OpenAI will not have access to its brain or other health data under the contracts or arrangements.

   Bridge Neurotech Raises $13.5M for Ultrasound BCI

   Bridge Neurotech has emerged from stealth with $13.5 million to develop a non-invasive brain-computer interface that uses functional ultrasound imaging to measure brain activity through the skull. The startup also signed a multi-year technology and hardware agreement with Butterfly Network, while its first human study is enrolling healthy adults in California.
